Overview

An asset management policy specifies how to track and manage assets.  As part of the management process, assets should be tracked from arrival to disposal.  This includes initial inventory of the systems, assets tagging, and the lifecycle of how to track location of the asset through the steps to dispose of the asset.

Why are they asking this?

They want to ensure that assets, which might store information, are not lost or stolen and disposed of properly.  Of particular importance, is the disposal of assets.  Assets should be purged of all data, or any storage media destroyed prior to disposal.

What do they expect?

It is expected that there is an asset management policy covering the entire lifecycle of assets, and that it includes that the assets are purged of all data or any storage media is destroyed prior to disposal.
